Dog Diaper Size Chart: Female Diapers & Male Belly Bands

Start with a waist measurement before selecting a diaper or wrap.

A size M dog diaper is not the same fit as a size M belly band. In X9’s current range, female M diapers fit a listed waist of 15–23 inches, while male M wraps fit 18–25 inches. Start with the product style and your dog’s waist measurement, then check the chart for that exact item.

This guide compares X9’s disposable female dog diapers and disposable male dog wraps, also called belly bands. The tables below are product-specific, not a universal sizing system for every brand.

First choose the style that covers the right area

A female dog diaper wraps around the hindquarters and uses a tail opening. A male belly band goes around the abdomen to position an absorbent area over the penis. These shapes do different jobs: a belly band is for urinary leaks or marking, not for containing stool.

Choose the style before choosing a size. A larger belly band does not become a female diaper, and a matching letter on two packs does not mean the waist ranges are identical. If you are managing urine leaks, the absorbent section must remain over the area where urine exits when your dog stands, sits and moves.

Measure before using the dog diaper size chart

  1. Have your dog stand comfortably. Use a soft measuring tape. If you use string instead, mark the overlap and measure the string flat with a ruler.
  2. Measure where the chosen product will fasten. Follow that product’s diagram. For a male wrap, check the abdomen in front of the hind legs, where the wrap must cover the penis. For a female diaper, check the waistband position shown on its package.
  3. Keep the tape level and snug without pulling it tight. It should follow the body through the coat. A loose loop around thick fur can overstate the measurement; pulling hard can understate it.
  4. Record the number and units. Measure a second time. Compare inches with inches, or centimeters with centimeters, before choosing the product option.

For example, 20 inches is 50.8 cm. It is not the same measurement as 20 cm. Use waist size rather than a breed label or a guess based on weight alone.

X9 female dog diaper size chart

Listed waist ranges for X9 female dog diapers
Size Waist, inches Waist, cm, approximate Diapers per bag
XS 9–14 22.9–35.6 32
S 12–19 30.5–48.3 32
M 15–23 38.1–58.4 32
L 18–27 45.7–68.6 32

Check the tail opening and hindquarter coverage as well as the waist. After fastening, the absorbent section should sit in place rather than hang below the body or pull against the tail.

Listed waist ranges for X9 disposable male wraps
Size Waist, inches Waist, cm, approximate Wraps per bag
XS 9–14 22.9–35.6 50
S 12–19 30.5–48.3 50
M 18–25 45.7–63.5 50
L 23–30 58.4–76.2 50

The centimeter figures are conversions of the listed inch ranges, rounded to one decimal place. Confirm the selected size, current availability and pack details on the linked product page before ordering.

What if your dog falls into two size ranges?

The overlapping ranges make a first fit check important. A 21-inch waist appears in both the M and L female diaper ranges, but only the M male wrap range. This does not mean every female dog measuring 21 inches should automatically wear L. Waist size narrows the options; body shape and how the diaper sits determine whether an option fits.

Start with the current package’s fit guidance. Fasten the product within its intended adjustment area and check that it covers the right anatomy without gaps, pulling or rubbing. If two listed sizes remain plausible, ask X9 for guidance using the waist measurement and exact product name before buying a large quantity.

Check the fit while your dog moves

After a short supervised introduction, have your dog take a few steps, sit and stand. Check the waistband, leg openings and absorbent section again. The American Kennel Club’s veterinary-informed guide advises a snug fit that lets fingers slide comfortably under the band without pinching.

Fit problems to check before changing sizes
What you notice What to check
The product slides backward or turns Remeasure the fastening position; check for gaps, loose tabs and the correct product style.
The band leaves pressure marks or pulls Remove it and reassess the fit. Do not tighten it further to stop slipping.
A male wrap stays on but urine misses it Check whether the absorbent section still covers the penis when your dog moves.
A female diaper gaps or pulls near the tail Check the tail opening, hindquarter fit and waistband position together.
The product is wet or soiled Change it. A new size is not a substitute for changing a used product.

Use diapers as a care aid

For dogs with urinary incontinence, follow your veterinarian’s care plan. Supervise wear, change a wet or soiled diaper, and keep the skin clean and dry before fitting a fresh one. Remove it for toilet breaks. New urine accidents, painful urination or blood in urine need veterinary advice; a diaper does not treat the cause. AKC also notes that diapers do not prevent mating. Follow your veterinarian’s advice for a dog in heat or recovering from surgery.

Questions before buying

What is a belly band for dogs?

It is a wrap for male dogs that positions an absorbent section over the penis. X9’s disposable version is listed as a male wrap. It does not cover the anus, so it is not intended to catch stool.

Should I choose the same letter size for different products?

No. Read each product’s waist chart. X9’s female M is 15–23 inches; the male M wrap is 18–25 inches. The bag counts also differ: 32 female diapers versus 50 male wraps.

Can a larger size stay on better?

Only if it fits better. Extra room can create gaps, while an overly tight fit can pull or rub. Remeasure and check coverage and movement before deciding.
